Open the Generator, choose QR code or barcode, then the content type (link, contact, Wi-Fi, menu…) or the symbology (EAN-13, Code 128…). Fill in the form, customize the design, then save: the code is added to your history and you can download it. Before saving, Scanou reads back every QR code and blocks any that would not scan.
A static QR code holds the information itself: it works forever, but it cannot change once printed and its scans are not counted. A dynamic QR code holds a short Scanou address: you can change its destination at any time, even after printing, and track its scans. Dynamic codes are included from the Starter plan.
A barcode is linear and mostly holds an identifier of a few digits or characters, read by checkout and inventory scanners. A QR code is two-dimensional: it holds much more information (a web address, a contact card, Wi-Fi access) and is read with a smartphone camera.
Single generation creates one code at a time, with every customization option. Bulk generation creates up to 100, 1,000 or 5,000 codes at once depending on your plan, from a CSV file or automatic numbering, and delivers a ZIP of images or an A4 PDF sheet. It is included from the Starter plan.
Yes, from your History. For a dynamic code, the change applies instantly to copies already printed. For a static code, changing the content produces a new symbol: you need to download and reprint the code.
PNG for screens and the web, JPG, SVG (vector, sharp at any size) and PDF for your printer. For print, use SVG or PDF.
You describe your use in one sentence, for example "a QR code on my restaurant tables for the menu of the day", and the assistant suggests a design (colors and style), a call to action, a name for the code and placement tips: print size, location, accompanying message.
In the Generator, open the Scanou Assistant, describe your use and, if you like, your industry. You can then apply the suggestion to the current code, or ask for another one.
Each suggestion uses one AI credit. Credits are included every month in paid plans: 50 on Starter, 200 on Business and 1,000 on Enterprise. The free plan does not include the assistant.
Yes. The contrast of every palette is checked after the AI responds, with a minimum of 4:1: a palette that is too pale is never suggested as is. And Scanou reads back every QR code before saving anyway.
Dynamic QR codes: every scan goes through the short Scanou address, which records it before redirecting. A static QR code goes through no server, so its scans cannot be counted.
A barcode is read by a checkout or inventory scanner, which never contacts Scanou. No service can count those reads.
For each dynamic code: the number of scans and their trend over time, the country and city, the device type and operating system. Find them on the Analytics page and in your History. CSV export of scans is available on the Business and Enterprise plans.
It is derived from the phone’s IP address, with no access to its GPS location. It is reliable for the country and approximate for the city: a mobile carrier may show the city of its network equipment rather than that of the person scanning.
Up to 50 codes a month, static QR codes and barcodes. Dynamic codes, analytics, bulk generation and the Scanou Assistant are included from the Starter plan.
You keep access to all your codes and can still download them. The monthly quota counts codes created since the 1st of the month and renews every month; the dynamic code limit applies to the number of dynamic codes in your account. To go further, upgrade your plan.
Yes, from the Billing page, with no commitment. A plan change applies immediately, prorated for the current period. A cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period; your dynamic codes then stay active for 30 days, after which those over your new plan’s quota are suspended until you resubscribe. No code is ever deleted.
Every paid plan is available monthly or yearly. Yearly billing costs the price of 10 months for 12.
Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express…), through Stripe. Scanou never sees or stores your card number. For the Enterprise plan or invoiced billing, contact us.
Check the contrast (dark modules on a light background; Scanou warns you below 3:1), the size (at least 2 cm wide, more if the code holds a lot of data) and the white margin around the code. Avoid glossy or crumpled surfaces. For a dynamic code, also check that your subscription is active.
The file is produced in your browser, then saved to your downloads folder. If nothing happens, check that your browser has not blocked the download, and try another format or another browser. If the problem persists, contact us.
The code is suspended: your subscription ended more than 30 days ago and the code is over your current plan’s quota. Resubscribe from the Pricing page and it is reactivated instantly, with nothing to reprint.
No, deletion is permanent. Be careful with dynamic codes: once deleted, copies already printed stop working. To change the destination, edit the code instead of deleting it.
The CSV file expects one value per line in the first column; an optional second column sets each file’s name. Semicolons and commas are accepted, the header row is skipped, and Excel exports (UTF-8 or Windows-1252) are read as they are. Invalid values, such as an EAN-13 of the wrong length, are flagged with examples. The number of rows must stay within your plan’s batch limit.
