Dynamic QR code: edit it without reprinting

A dynamic QR code points to a short Scanou address that redirects to the destination of your choice. You can change that destination at any time, even after printing thousands of labels, and track how many times each code is scanned.

  • Destination editable at any time
  • Scans counted: date, country, city, device
  • The same symbol on all your materials
  • Contact cards updated without reprinting

How it works

  1. 1

Create the code in dynamic mode

In the generator, choose "Dynamic code" and enter the destination: a web page, your menu, your contact card.

  2. 2

    Print it

The symbol only holds a short Scanou address: it has fewer modules than a long link, so it scans more easily, even when small.

  3. 3

    Edit and measure

Change the destination from your history, without touching the printed code, and view the scans in your analytics.

How does a dynamic QR code work?

A static QR code holds your link directly: once printed, it can never change. A dynamic QR code holds an intermediate address hosted by Scanou. When scanned, Scanou records the visit and redirects the phone to the destination you chose, within milliseconds.

Because the destination is stored at Scanou rather than in the symbol, you can replace it at any time. Codes that are already printed follow immediately.

Why choose a dynamic QR code?

A dynamic code saves you from reprinting, and measures what you print:

  • Fix a wrong link discovered after printing.
  • Update a menu, a price list or a product sheet.
  • Reuse the same materials for a new campaign.
  • Measure how well a poster, a flyer or a package performs.
  • Keep your details up to date on business cards already handed out.

Which scan analytics?

For each dynamic code, Scanou records the number of scans, their trend over time, the country and city, the device type and the operating system. You see which material works, where and when. CSV export of scans is available on the Business plan.

Dynamic or static: let’s be clear

A dynamic code is not always the right choice. Wi-Fi access, for instance, must stay static: the phone reads the password straight from the symbol. A dynamic code also relies on a hosted service: it is included from the Starter plan. After a cancellation, your codes stay active for 30 days, then those over your new plan’s quota are suspended until you resubscribe. None are deleted.

Frequently asked questions

Is a dynamic QR code paid?

Yes: it relies on a redirection and tracking service hosted by Scanou. It is included from the Starter plan (50 dynamic codes) and unlimited on the Business and Enterprise plans.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

Your dynamic codes stay active for 30 days. After that, those over your new plan’s quota show an "inactive code" page until you resubscribe, which reactivates them instantly, with nothing to reprint.

Can I make an already printed static QR code dynamic?

No: a static code’s content is written into the symbol itself. You need to create a new code in dynamic mode and print it once; after that, you will never have to again.

Does the redirect slow down scanning?

No. The redirect takes a few dozen milliseconds, and the symbol, simpler than a long link, often scans faster.
